Our second league game of the season saw us play Haydonleigh in what turned out to be a very entertaining game. Westrop started on top from the start with the majority of the play in the opposing team's half. Despite this halfway through the half Haydonleigh pounced on a loose pass from Westrop and broke away to score the opening goal. Westrop relied immediately with Harrison lobbing the goalkeeper with a fine finish. Harrison almost put Westrop ahead with a similar attempt, but it went narrowly wide. For the rest of the half the game was very even with both sides having chances, Jacob making a couple of fine saves in the Westrop goal. The half ended 1-1.

The game continued with both teams evenly matched, Westrop going close on a few occasions with Tommy having an excellent game in midfield, at the other end  Haydonleigh struck the crossbar with a good effort. Haydonleigh were then awarded a penalty when a Westrop defender handled in the box. Fortunately for Westrop the penalty was missed. Shortly afterwards Westrop took advantage of this let off and got themselves ahead after Theo forced the ball home after a goal mouth scramble. Westrop then worked tirelessly , as they had the whole game, to keep Haydonleigh at bay but right at the end Haydonleigh equalised meaning the match finished 2-2. The result was a fair reflection of the game which was played in a great spirit.

We started our league campaign at home to Abbey Meads. A Westrop team made up of more year 5`s than 6`s started very brightly passing the ball well and causing Abbey Meads problems. Westrop created some good chances in the 1st half but both Luke and Freddie were unable to convert good chances, and Tommy saw a good shot get tipped around the post. Abbey Meads worked hard and pressed themselves, but Aaron and Lincoln were defending well to keep them at bay. Just before half time a good hard low shot from Abbey Meads striker found its way into the net to give them the lead. The 1st half ended 1-0 to Abbey Meads but it wasn`t a fair reflection on how well Westrop played and were encouraged to keep playing as they were.

The 2nd half started with Westrop continuing to play well, more chances came but unfortunately couldn`t be taken. Midway through the half Tommy picked up the ball and drove forward before shooting past the Abbey Meads keeper to draw Westrop level. As both teams began to tire the game got scrappier but westrop kept pressing to get a winner. Abbey Meads though were a threat at the other end and Jacob had to make a double save to keep the scores level. The game ended 1 - 1 but it was an encouraging start to the season especially as this was the first time the majority of the boys had played for the School Team.
