Term 4 Trip to Stonehenge

As part of our Stone Age to Iron Age Topic, Hedgehog Class visited the historical landmark of Stonehenge. In the morning, the children took part in a Neolithic workshop where they used their enquiry skills to investigate how, why and when Stonehenge was built. They also explored the Neolithic houses where the children learnt about prehistoric life as well as looking at a variety of artefacts. The children then spent the afternoon visiting the stones and discovering some interesting facts in the museum.

Term 2’s Host Country, Lebanon

For our host country this term, Hedgehog class have been learning all about Lebanese culture. They have researched the geography of the country, the languages spoken, their currency and the food’s eaten. The children produced some wonderful, informative posters about Lebanon and even got to make their own Pita breads. The children really enjoyed cooking these and they tasted delicious!

Science Rocks

In Science, Hedgehog class have been learning about Rocks. They have been grouping and comparing rocks based on their characteristics, observing them closely with a magnifying glass and identifying which rocks absorb water. To identify which rocks were absorbent, the children planned and conducted an experiment. They were given six rocks, a pipette, a timer, and a beaker water. One at a time, the children put three droplets of water onto each rock. They waited one minute and then observed carefully to see if the water had absorbed. Upon reflection of the experiment, there were far more non-absorbent rocks than absorbent rocks in each table group.

Local Walk Around Highworth

For our Topic in term 1 , Hedgehog class are learning all about the history of Highworth. To introduce our topic, the children went on a local walk to discover the town’s history. We visited St Michaels Church, to discover the impact of the Civil war; the old school on Sheep Street and the post office Mabel Stranks worked in. The children did a fantastic job of representing our school. In addition, the children also had a visit from a local historian who answered many of our questions about Highworth.
