Our Governors
School governance is the most important volunteering role in education and as unpaid volunteers we are committed to serving the best interests of the school.
As governors we set the strategic direction of the school; hold the school leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the performance management of staff; and, oversee the financial performance – making sure its money is well spent.
We play a vital role in promoting high standards of educational achievement, share a common vision that the children in our community should receive the best possible education in all areas of their development and ensure the continued development of the school for current and future pupils.
The governing body is made up of: school staff, parents of pupils and other members of the community from all walks of life.
We play a vital role in promoting high standards of educational achievement, share a common vision that the children in our community should receive the best possible education
If you would like to make a difference to children’s lives by helping them to realise their aspirations and expectations, please volunteer to join us and become a School Governor.
We hold regular formal meetings to consider and act on a variety of items affecting the school and to receive reports from the Headteacher. Minutes of the issues discussed and decisions taken during our meetings are available in the school. Please ask at the school office if you are interested in seeing them.
You can get more information on how to become a governor and make arrangements to talk to existing governors about what drives them to serve their community in this way from the school office. Alternatively you can email head@westrop.swindon.sch.uk to arrange an informal chat.
The School Strategic Plan is a high-level, long-term plan, extending over a period of 5 years, from 2019-2024. It sets out the school’s vision, values and long-term strategic priorities. It is aimed at the key stakeholders in the school: children and their parents; staff; governors; and other stakeholders.
The Westrop Governance Manual describes the framework for governance at Westrop Primary and Nursery School. It outlines the arrangements in place so there is clarity for governors, staff and parents about the role governors play in managing the strategic direction of the school and the arrangements for governance and oversight.
If you need to contact the Chair of Governors you can email louisew@westrop.swindon.sch.uk.
