Year 1 and 2 Class

Cardiff Castle
Rabbit class had a great day out at Cardiff Castle experiencing so many things we have been learning about in class. We crossed the Prince of Wales Bridge into Wales, walked past the Castle Animal Wall under the portcullis and through the gate house. We took part in a tour of the castle and saw the Great Hall, Library and cannons. Then, we did a workshop lead by Sir Mark. He was very impressed with our knowledge and answered lots of questions that we had. He even let us dress up as a soldier, archer and knight. To end our day, we climbed the steep steps to the old stone Keep where we spotted many of the castle’s defences and looked at the views across the city.
Forest School
This term, Rabbit class have been exploring the grounds of our forest. They enjoyed taking part in a variety of forest school activities such as making fishing rods, stick people, scavenger hunts and cooking up a storm in our mud kitchen. To end our time at forest school, the children enjoyed toasting marshmallows around the fire pit and a making their very own s’mores treat. They were delicious!

Stuart Lloyd Gould goes nuts at Westrop School!
We were very lucky to have a local author Stuart Lloyd Gould (a former Westrop pupil) visit us to share his fabulous book ‘NUTS’. We loved finding out about all the animal characters including a Squirrel, Otter, Owl, Badger and Fox. Stuart read us the story and then answered some of our questions about what it is like to be an author. We are still enjoying Stuart’s story book as it’s one of our recommended reads in the school library.
